Philex output up 20% in Jan-Aug

MANILA, Philippines - The estimated value of minerals produced by Philex Mining Corp. rose 20% during the first 8 months of 2010.

Based on the firm’s disclosures to the Philippine Stock Exchange, production from January to August amounted to P7.42 billion compared to P6.2 billion in the same period last year, owing to increased tonnage, better ore grades and higher metal prices.

Indophil becomes a takeover target again

A $550 million takeover of the Melbourne-based Philippine copper-gold group Indophil Resources is back on the cards after the July withdrawal by Chinese group Zijin with its $1.28-a-share offer.

Indophil, a 37.5 per cent partner in the world-class Tampakan copper-gold project in the Philippines, said yesterday it was in “dialogue with a range of interested parties in relation to a potential corporate transaction”.

RP mining firm eyes Japan, Australia as export markets

A Filipino-owned mining firm is gearing to penetrate the export markets of Japan and Australia in the coming months after it successfully shipped 54,000 metric tons (MT) of nickel ore to mainland China last week.

Officials of the Oriental Vision Mining Philippines estimate the shipments to be around 50,000 to 60,000 MT, which will be both profitable owing to the grade of ore.

Mines Bureau expects P10B in mining taxes, fees, royalties

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) on Wednesday reported that the national government would earn at least P10 billion in taxes, fees, and royalties from mining operations this year, from P9.18 in 2009.

“This goes to show that mining in the country is still alive regardless of a couple of unfortunate incidents that alarmed investors in the country,” MGB director Edwin Domingo said.

Mindoro Resources Ltd.: Increased Agata Nickel Resource and Regional Drilling Commenced

EDMONTON, ALBERTA–(Marketwire - Aug. 23, 2010) - Mindoro Resources Ltd. (TSX VENTURE:MIO); (FRANKFURT:WKN 906167) today announced an increased Mineral Resource estimate for the Agata Nickel Project. This includes a Measured and Indicated resource of 29.8 million tonnes at 1.03 percent nickel, an increase of 2.9 million tonnes compared to the December 2009 estimate with a slight decrease in grade due to a more robust estimation methodology and more detailed information. Mindoro announces drilling results from Agata Nickel Project

Mindoro Resources Limited has announced the last batch of infill drilling results from the company’s Agata Nickel Project in the Philippines with grades and thickness of potential economic interest, including limonite intersections averaging 4.06 meters at 1.15% nickel, 0.13% cobalt and 48% iron and saprolite intersections averaging 7.25 meters at 1.31% nickel. The peak limonite intersection was AGL-453: 10.9 meters @ 1.55% nickel and 40% iron from 1.9 meters and peak saprolite intersection AGL-545:13.45 meters @ 1.73% Nickel from 4.10 meters including 3.95 meters @ 2.04 % from 4.10 meters.
