Indophil Resources NL, part-owner of the highly prospective Tampakan project in the Philippines, is well placed to take advantage of the country`s resurgent mining industry. Managing director Tony Robbins spoke to MJ Online editor Simon Jessop at his exhibitor`s booth in the Business Lounge at this year`s Mines and Money conference…Â

Q: Tony, the company was set up to look at potential projects in SE Asia, what made you look at the Philippines?

I came out of Western Mining Corp and I realised that a lot of SE Asia was opening up and there was a real opportunity in the Philippines. They were just bringing in a new mining law and with Western Mining we`d been successful in the discovery of the Tampakan orebody and so saw real opportunities.

For example, when I was with Western Mining, the first four properties we drilled all had ore-grade intersections and the fourth was Tampakan - which has now turned out to be a world-class resource - so we saw great potential there.
