LAFAYETTE Mining says the repair of its typhoon-damaged polymetallic mine in the Philippines is on track, but the troubled operation is facing more headaches, this time from insurers.
The company said the base metals plant and ancillary structure required for the restart of production of copper and zinc concentrates were expected to be available early next month.”Lafayette is confident the reliable production of commercial quality copper and zinc concentrates can be rapidly re-established after the restart of the base metals plant,” the company said.
Typhoon Reming (also know as Durian) hit the island of Rapu Rapu in November, damaging infrastructure.
Lafayette said the budget for the first phase of repairs was $US1.06 million ($1.35 million), with a further $US5 million slated for infrastructure upgrades to withstand further bad weather.
