Manila - The Philippine government on Thursday allowed an Australian mining firm to continue with its operations in the country after being suspended for two tailing spills in 2005.
Environment Secretary Angelo Reyes said his department has lifted the cease-and-desist order against Lafayette Mining Ltd, which was issued in October.
‘The mining operations of Lafayette can now proceed,’ he said.
Lafayette’s zinc and copper mine on Rapu-Rapu Island in Albay province, 350 kilometres south-east of Manila, was closed down after the tailing spills in October 2005.
