MANILA, Philippines — Australian miner OceanaGold Corp. said it expected to complete in the first quarter a drilling program in the northern province of Nueva Vizcaya, which would take it a step closer toward producing gold and copper by 2009 despite resistance from surrounding communities.

In a statement posted on its website, OceanaGold announced that after nine months of drilling, the Didipio gold-copper deposit zone was found to contain a reserve of 32.98 million tons at 1.48 grams of gold per ton and 0.58 percent copper.
