Mining investments seen hitting $892M this year

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines can expect $892 million in new investments in the mining sector this year, up by 47 percent from $605 million last year, Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Joselito Atienza said.

About $750 million of the expected investments will go to “first-tier” mineral development projects — those in the construction and development stage, feasibility and financing stage, and advanced exploration state — Atienza said in a presentation to the Australian-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines.
