Australian company ready to start mining in Masbate

MANILA, Philippines—Australian firm CGA Mining Ltd. said its management and those of its partners Filminera Resources Corp. and Philippine Gold Processing and Refining Corp. had engaged Leighton Contractors for work that would lead to the start of open pit mining in Masbate province, south of Manila.

CGA Mining said in a statement that Leighton, also of Australia, was expected to start next month construction of a tailings dam, which would be completed in August.

Based on CGA Mining’s original timetable, open pit mining should start at its Masbate project in the second quarter of the year with the commissioning of the mine plant following in the fourth quarter.
