Miner eyes on-site nickel processing

MANILA, Philippines—Canadian firm Mindoro Resources Ltd. said last week it was taking steps closer to on-site processing of nickel ores in its Agata project in Surigao mining district.

At the same time, the company said in a statement its direct shipping ore (DSO) operation in the Agata North project was expanded, its production capacity was increased to a million wet metric tons a year.

The firm said a final resource estimate was nearing completion and the mine planning, as well as the process of securing permits, was in the advanced stages.

Mindoro Resources had estimated an annual yield—for the first five years of production—of 500,000 to 700,000 WMT of ores for direct shipment to buyers in China, India and Korea.
