Cagayan gov’t says mines bureau selective in issuance of ECC

TUGUEGARAO, Philippines – The provincial government of Cagayan and the regional office of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) are again at loggerheads over the latter’s prompt awarding of Environmental Compliance Certificates (ECC) to several quarry firms in Cagayan while a stoppage order to quarry in the same site has been issued by them to a Chinese firm.
Records show that MGB has issued a cease and desist order (CDO) against San You Philippines Mining Trade Ltd. on October 15 for its non-compliance to the requirements of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to secure ECCs and other documents for them to be allowed to operate in the area.
