DESPITE strong opposition from the Church and some environmental groups, Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) has started the process of acquiring an environmental compliance certificate (ECC) for its copper and gold-mine project in Tampakan, South Cotabato.

“We already embarked on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment [Esia] of the Tampakan project. There’s a range of studies being conducted by international and local experts who are recognized authorities in their fields,” said Elvie Grace Ganchero, Sagittarius’s corporate community sustainability manager.
