Ramos signs 4 policies for sustainable mining

Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Sec. Horacio Ramos, a practicing mining engineer who rose from the ranks of the DENR, has signed four policies aimed at reviving and redirecting the mining industry towards sustainability and responsibility.
At the testimonial dinner given for him after the oath-taking of the new officers of the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers (PSEM) at the Legende Villas on March 19, Ramos said he was appointed by President Arroyo last February 10 because she recognizes “the genuine role of sustainable and responsible mining in national economic development and poverty reduction due to its trickle-down effect,” true to her 2003 policy pronouncement on the revitalization of the mineral industry.
