Compromise sought for Tampakan project

THE GOVERNMENT will try to facilitate negotiations between concerned parties for a “compromise” on the open pit mining ban in South Cotabato, which is affecting the $5.2-billion Tampakan copper-gold project.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), which chairs the Minerals Development Council under the Office of the President, will meet with both the local government officials of South Cotabato and mining industry players so that each side may be aired, according to Environment Secretary Ramon Jesus P. Paje.
