Mining companies agree to plant trees in 277 hectares of land

DARAGA, Albay, May 13 (PIA) — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and some 11 mining companies in Bicol recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to plant trees in 277 hectares of land for the country’s National Greening Program (NGP).
The MOA, which was signed on April 25 at the Balay Cena Una here, has tasked the DENR to orient the companies on the program, its objectives, organizations and implementation mechanism; identify the area; provide technical guidance, maintenance and protection of the plantation; and monitor and evaluate the program implementation.
The mining companies, on the other hand, will be in charge in seedling production, planting maintenance and protection for three (3) years; provide necessary manpower and material inputs; document the implementation of the program and submit reports.
