GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines (PNA) – A mining firm in Tampakan, South Cotabato received the 2010 Safest Mine Award under the exploration category with a rating of 96.14 percent.
The award was given to Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI) in Tampakan town during an annual gathering of industry leaders held recently.

The government will protect mining investments in the country, including the $5.2-billion Tampakan gold and copper project in South Cotabato, Environment Secretary Ramon Jesus Paje said Tuesday.

MANILA, Philippines - Citing the project’s threat to the environment, the Catholic Church in South Cotabato has increased pressure on the provincial government to block a large-scale mining in Tampakan town.
